Sheff�s first memoir of addiction, Tweak (2008), figures in this follow-up�if only he could finish writing it, the publisher would give him the cash he needs to jump-start a better life, pay back IOUs, and, you know, score some booze and weed. Yes, the drugs are less scary this time (no needles), but the ride is just as terrifying, as the 23-year-old Sheff bounces from two detox centers into a dangerously abrupt relationship living with a girl in Charleston. Good intentions and bad decisions follow: Sheff�s frustrations at a dead-end job lead him to virtually nonstop drinking and smoking, once more testing the patience of everyone he loves. Sheff intelligently portrays himself as the most delusional of unreliable narrators. Prone to rambling, wheedling, and sobbing, he resets his goals with each page and rationalizes the hell out of every impulsive action. Flaws abound here�like, there�s not much of a plot�but Sheff is blessed with off-the-charts readability, and his sex- and profanity-laced first-person narration makes him lovable and hateable in equal measure. I read Tweak after reading Beautiful Boy, by Nic's father, twice. I am the mother of an addict. When I saw Nic had written another book, I instantly read the reviews and kindled it immediately, honestly not expecting to be as moved by it as I was by Tweak. That is not the case. Nic, thank you for writing this book, it was amazing.

It may sound odd to call a book about the tortures of someones life amazing, but, this book is. Nic lets us see every twisted, terrible downward spiral by being honest with how he feels and what he thinks, no matter how dirty it sounds. His braveness is unbelievable, letting us see the worst of him. Then, we also get a glimpse of the greatness in him and the hope that lies within. And that hope gives me hope, for him, for my son, for every addict out there.

Nic DOES NOT whine about 12 step programs nor does he bash them. He simply doesn't think they are his way. They may work for most, but perhaps not for him, or they are not the be all end all. He does participate in treatment that is not 12 step based, although he said he goes to a meeting once in a while. Since when does one thing make sense for ALL, every single person? That thinking is so off track. There is always a percentage of people that the common cure does not work for. All Nic is saying is that 12 step isn't for him, let's not crucify him for it. If he had cancer, maybe chemo would work for most, but maybe not for him, are we gonna fry him for that? I applaud how he figured out what he is comfortable with, and stayed true to himself. He doesn't say don't do treatment, he says find the treatment that feels right to you.

This book is just as good as Tweak, and I sincerely hope Nic keeps writing, because I, for one, will be buying his next one.

This book is a good study of what goes through addicts heads when they relapse!

When we left off with Nic Sheff in Tweak, he was in rehab, and it sounded as if it was working this time. The thing with rehab is we never know how many times it's going to take. A lot of addicts give up after a couple of tries, and everyone else gives up on them also. But you got to keep trying. You can't stop trying after four attempts if the fifth time is the one that's going to work.

Anyway, I thought Nic was going to make it this time, but in his follow-up memoir, We All Fall Down, we find out that he's just faking it, he's playing the "therapy game." He says what he knows they want to hear, and they believe him...until he gets kicked out for making out with a female client.

What I liked about Nic in Tweak was his humbleness, his honesty, and his insightfulness. But this is a different Nic Sheff in We All Fall Down. He's grandiose, he's an egomaniac with an inferiority complex, and he's got a severe case of terminal uniqueness. He thinks he's better than everyone - hipper, smarter, cooler, but, paradoxically, he thinks he's nothing. I didn't like this Nic Sheff at all. I was thinking, what a low-down, spineless wimp, know-it-all.

Then I realized these are things I don't like about myself. I remembered that this is exactly how I was when I was in my twenties. It's ugly.

Well, of course he relapses, though he doesn't sink as low as before - no hard drugs, mostly pot and alcohol. This book is a good study of what goes through an addict's head as he relapses. There's all the rationalizations, minimizations, and justifications - the twisted logic.

And it all proves that it's not the drug that's the problem. It's our inability to live life on life's terms that the problem. Of course it's a cliche now, but it's true that the drug use is just a symptom of the real problem.

We All Fall Down ends with Nic getting clean again, getting another eighteen months of sobriety. But after using for several years, it's really hard to stop using when you're in you're in your twenties. As Nic says, "Having to be sober was like being a forty-year-old trapped in a young adult's body." We all do fall down, but the important thing is to pick ourselves back up.

As someone who has struggled with drugs, and who has a father who has, this book was wonderful to read, consoling and inspiring. I cried a lot, but ended up feeling hopeful. I've relapsed a bunch of times, but I've been sober for 9 months, and feel hopeful for Nic and others who suffer with addiction.

About the Author
Joe Ponder was born in 1988 on an Air Force base in Georgia. His mother was a psychologist before becoming a Christian minister and his father a retired United States Air Force Major. Joe comes from a family of aviators. His grandfather was a Navy jet pilot and his uncle an Army helicopter pilot. Growing up a military brat, Joe traveled the world. After high school, he moved out on his own and got work as an aircraft mechanic. While living in Kentucky, Joe frequented a lounge called the Cat’s Den, a gathering spot for local artists. There, he regularly wrote and performed poetry. Still turning wrenches as a mechanic, Joe decided to further his career and attended Middle Tennessee State University, where he met his future wife, Sam. Their son CJ was born in 2010. Joe’s son and book, Kings of Earth, celebrate diversity. CJ is mixed with African, Pauite Native American, and Creole from his father’s side and Laotian, Thai, and Chinese from his mother’s side. After graduating with his aerospace bachelor’s degree, Joe took an aviation maintenance management position in Texas where he lives with his family today.

Great Story With Something For Everyone

While the writing isn't amazing, the content is. This book offers good, solid writing with an incredible story. I met Mr. Ponder recently at Austin Comic Con and he warned me that the book had a few unexpected twist in it. The twists completely blew me out of the water and were so well done. The excitement and love he had for his book when talking to me about it clearly shone through in the writing and care for this story.

I had my doubts about this book at first from reading the blurb on the back, but after talking to Mr. Ponder I decided to give it a shot. It didn't disappoint and was very much money well spent. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes science fiction. There truly is a bit of everything for everyone in this: drug cartels, mechas, some romance, a little drama, aliens, and an overall captivating story.

Another thing I loved about this book is that the cast of characters are very diverse in race. As a parent of a mixed child myself, I'm always looking for books we can read together that offer a diverse cast of characters. I also liked how this book sort of touched on the subject of racism and some of the feelings of being a child of mixed race. It will be a good springboard for discussion when my child gets a little older.

I honestly couldn't put it down. Note and I cannot wait for the next part.

All around an enjoyable read

The book Kings of Earth has a great story line. I gave it a 4 star only because the writing isna bit choppy.

The book has a lot of diverse characters and is well driven by its main character Leo, while also following parts about his other characters Michael and Iris.

For me it was hard to follow all the "lingo" because new words for machines are in the book and I am not familiar with military lingo either.

The plot, along with all the twist and list if characters are what made this a good read. I would recomend to others.

Great read for people trying to up their Instagame. My friend and I picked up Aimee's new book to help us with our new site [...] so that we could really improve our Instagram account. We are both professional marketers and manage several social media accounts, but we have never done one for a 'lifestyle' company. The book is a nice combination of information, easy reading, and photography. We were able to learn some great (and easy to implement) items that are sure to help us!

Great tips, even if you're an experienced blogger

The concepts in this book aren't super complex or anything (especially if you're an experienced IGer like me), but then again neither is Instagram! It was great getting an insight into her journey as a blogger and learning some of her top tips. I loved how she provided examples using past pictures from her blog. It was also super refreshing to know a top blogger like her really does just user her phone's camera. She is just strategic enough with planning and editing her shots to make those simple pics look amazing. Thanks Aimee!

The first and most important skill is error measurement. The author makes a clear declaration about the best method and demonstrates its use throughout the book. The book does not use complex formulas. Instead, it is designed around the sales forecasting learning curve.
The sad truth is that few forecasters have any formal education or training on the subject. Part of this is because most forecasting books use numerous complex formulas, which are arcane, intimidating and off-putting. Another reason is that sales forecasters are encouraged to place too much trust in forecasting software by vendors who tend to make exaggerated and unsubstantiated claims about forecasting accuracy. The second skill is testing, and the author demonstrates how to divide historical sales data into in- and out-samples, calibrate models on the in-sample, and assess model accuracy by forecasting the out-sample. The third and fourth skills are avoiding linear extensions and mastering exponential smoothing. Part 1 is concluded with a description of the whole forecasting process and what is called "five-step forecasting." Part 2 moves into intermediate forecasting. Leading software packages are assessed through the author's research. Very little is published on forecasting software assessment, so this chapter plays an important role. Then ARIMA and ARIMAX are taught and demonstrated through multiple examples. These two methods, combined with exponential smoothing, form the foundation of intermediate forecasting. Perhaps the most exciting chapters in Part 2 involve aggregation. This is a rapidly growing field. The author identifies some important gaps in the area, then fills them with his own research. Anyone involved in sales forecasting can benefit from these important findings. A chapter is dedicated to demonstrating the application of sound forecasting techniques to product planning and quota setting. It becomes quite clear that traditional methods generate far more error than the sales forecasting techniques taught in this book. The author also examines the topic of handicapping, or determining how much confidence to place on a forecast. He introduces the concept of "true confidence ranges" and also demonstrates the application of Bayesian probabilities to sales forecasting. To conclude the book, the author explores economic forecasting and closes with a discussion of common forecasting pitfalls to be avoided at all costs.

Despite the ubiquity of sales forecasting throughout the business world, there is a shocking lack of sophistication on the subject. The problem is compounded by the fact that human beings are inherently poor forecasters. They are often tempted to let their emotions distort their predictions of the future. The best salve is to learn the fundamentals of sales forecasting. Rather than focus on forecasting methods, as do most authors, Sales Forecasting starts with error measurement. Rather than list numerous alternatives for measuring error or generating forecasts, this author takes definitive stands and makes clear recommendations based on extensive research. The author is passionate about upgrading the analytical foundation of sales and marketing management. Too often these disciplines use overly simplistic sales forecasting techniques. In the author's view, every sales and marketing manager should be familiar with the basics taught in Part 1 of Sales Forecasting.

I just received this book, started reading today and right now I am at chapter 3. I probably should have purchased the Kindle Version. Not sure if this book is worth $40 "A Practical Guide" is the correct title. Part 1 includes Chapters 1 - 8 and consist of approx. 64 pages. Part 2 goes on to talk about different Software.

As a non-geek who has no prowess for complex mathematical formulas I found Blessington's book very helpful. I have taken Forecasting at the graduate level and I wish this had been our textbook at the time.

A resource for both the study and practice of worship and mission

At the dawn of the middle ages Pope Gregory the Great began the systematic reforms of the crumbled western Roman empire. Part of his project included the unification of ritual practice from Rome to the western edge of the continent. These liturgical reforms aimed to unite Christendom in a common mode of worship. Though liturgists speak of this time as the codification of liturgical texts, it was also a landmark historical moment in which the pope recognized the importance of shared practice. In other words the citizens of the empire would not just be Christian in name but would identify one another as companions in a shared practice.

In our time this political usage of the church's worship seems Machiavellian, especially at the dawn of Post-Christendom. For those traditions of the Radical Reformation which are most at home in the age Post Christendom, such a perspective on the formation of persons through ritual practice is suspect. For many in the Anabaptist stream of Christianity our theology, most notably our ecclesiology, often has little room for liturgical awareness. Instead ethics or mission are results of a cognitive system. We simply do what we believe. But where do these beliefs emerge? How do we know that our way of life is actually distinct from that of the surrounding world?

The Kreider's have finally opened the door to answer and understand these questions as uniquely liturgical. Without heading down the road of Pope Gregory's liturgy, Alan and Eleanor reveal how our time of worship in the presence of a transforming God shape us and send us out into the missio dei- the mission of God's reconciling love in the world.

This is no small undertaking. Not only do the Kreider's address the cultural and ecclesial shifts of 21st century Post-Christendom, they describe the fields of missiology and liturgical history. It is a task they accomplish with attentive skills throughout the book. Not only does their research emerge clearly in their prose and bibliography but their ability to synthesize these often insular disciplines.
